George Mason University was established in 1956 as the Northern Virginia branch of the University of Virginia. It became an independent institution in 1972. And since then, it's grown into the largest public university in Virginia. Thanks to its very high research activity, GMU is classified by the Carnegie System as an R1 Doctoral Research University, the highest rating possible in the US.
We have three campuses in Northern Virginia, a campus in South Korea, and a growing body of online programs just like this one. The I/O program was also founded in 1972. Over the years, our faculty members have been prominent in the field as both academics and practitioners.
Five faculty members associated with our program have held positions as the president of the largest professional organization in our field, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, also known as SIOP. Several of our student graduates have gone on to work at top universities and large reputable organizations around the world.
Our program often ranks among the top I/O programs in the country. When I was a first year graduate student at Mason, I didn't really understand what that meant, until I was reading the textbooks and top tier journal articles and realized how many of them were written by Mason faculty and alumni.
When I attended my first SIOP conference, prominent individuals of the field started conversations with me when noticing George Mason University on my name badge. The Mason I/O faculty currently comprise of several full time members, making us one of, if not the largest, I/O program in the country.
Several of these faculty, along with Mason alumni and other great instructors, will be teaching your courses. I encourage you all to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the talent here at Mason by visiting I/O Psychology faculty page.
